As you may already know, Collect has made some changes in operations. Both Collect gallery spaces in Old Oakland will still carry great art and host stellar events but will be renamed and independently operated. Collect's 465 9th Street space will continue to remain open and will be operated by Geremia Design. Likewise, Collect's 815 Broadway Street space will continue to remain open (after a brief re-design) and will be operated by Leila Banijamali. Leila will also be opening another gallery around the corner on 9th Street in the coming weeks. 2009 has been an incredible inaugural year at Collect! We have had the pleasure of partnering up with DWR for art shows and sales, opened two gallery spaces in Old Oakland where we have hosted art workshops, print sales, film screenings, food tastings, a benefit for the Children's Hospital of Oakland in partnership with Suru, and various art and design shows.

2010 will continue to be a successful year at Collect with more shows at DWR, the continuation of our monthly print sales and short-film screenings, and many art shows, including one featuring artists, Gabriela Hernandez-Lepe and Rachel Orimo, scheduled for January 12th. SYNOPSIS:

May I Be Frank documents the transformation of Frank Ferrante's life. Frank, a 54 year old Sicilian from Brooklyn finds himself living in San Francisco struggling with addiction and depression. He is severely overweight and must rely on pharmaceutical drugs to combat his Hepatitis C.

One day Frank unknowingly stumbles into a local restaurant in San Francisco. Frank is asked by a server what is one thing he wants to do before he dies. Franks response is fall in love one more time, but doesn't believe it can happen with the way things are going for him.

Initially believing he was just going to lose some weight and get healthy, Frank had no idea it would affect so many aspects of his life. The film becomes documentation about the human condition, and what it means to really fall in love again.

Shallenberger's photographs depict beautiful, and often barren, landscapes that are presented as segmented stills. Starting in September 2009, Collect will take over two prime commercial spaces in Old Oakland. The first, located on 9th Street near Broadway, will serve as a gallery space for Collect artists as well as an office headquarters for Geremia Design. The second, located at 815 Broadway, will house the Collect Annex and will serve as a store and studio space for various rotating guest artists. The Annex will offer unique and hard-to-find art pieces and living accessories that have been carefully selected for immediate sale. It will enable different local artists to display their pieces in an environment that is conducive to showing off their wares. The spaces will be well-appointed and advertised to ensure maximum visibility. While operating both of these spaces simultaneously, Collect plans to attract a variety of local professionals and artists to the surrounding neighborhood by organizing and hosting community-centered events. Events will occur twice weekly and may be comprised of live music, food and drinks, sketch nights, film screenings, artist openings, and affordable art sales. Also, Collect plans on extending its reach to audiences beyond the local neighborhoods to the entire San Francisco Bay Area by utilizing its vast network of artists, art lovers, and business owners / clients. The spaces will be open to the public for viewing and business during regular business hours at least 3 times a week and by appointment.

Collect is proud to partner with Design Within Reach in presenting the photography of Maria Bianco.

Bianco, born in Chicago and living in Los Angeles, has been invested in the photo industry for more than 10 years. She began her career as a commercial print agent and print producer, working with award winning photographers, magazines and advertising agencies worldwide. Bianco's works have been featured by some of the world's top publishers and she has successfully continued to pursue her own work in lieu of representing others.

Please join us, Lauren Geremia and Leila Banijamali, as we present Bianco and her select works in this inaugural event at DWR on Fillmore Street in San Francisco. We will provide complimentary fine wines and light fare catered by Chris Geremia of Anchor and Hope.

Collect is acquiring our very own Oropallo. Oropallo created the beautiful Guise series of works that were featured at the De Young Museum in San Francisco back in 2007 (above "George" is from the same series) where she digitally superimposed sexy pin-up girls over classical male figures. The results are playful and stunning. Oropallo's Guise prints can be purchased from our friends at Gallery 16 here in the city of SF. We will keep you up-to-date on which exact piece will join our collection...we want them all but, alas, we must be picky...
